PRIVATE CARE GUIDE
Partner care protects both of you
Partner care is a health step, not a blame exercise. Depending on the infection and timing, current or recent partners may need confidential notification, testing, clinical assessment or treatment—even if they have no symptoms.

Why involve partners when they feel well?
Many infections cause no symptoms. An untreated partner can develop complications, transmit the infection or pass it back after your treatment. Partner management is therefore part of the treatment pathway, not an optional extra.
How can I tell a partner?
Keep the message factual, private and short: a result was found, they may have been exposed and confidential medical advice is recommended. A clinic may offer notification support; ask what is available and lawful locally.
Choose privacy
Use a safe private channel and avoid sharing the information publicly.
Share the fact
Name the infection if known and encourage professional assessment.
Avoid blame
Results do not always establish when or from whom an infection was acquired.
Make care easier
Share the clinic or testing route if the partner wants it.
When can sexual activity resume?
The answer differs by infection and treatment. Follow the clinician’s written instruction and wait until the relevant treatment interval is complete, symptoms have resolved where required, and partners have received appropriate care.
